Amiss

I am feeling amiss. It is almost June and I have yet to post an entry, but this is about to change. With Carrie Rose (CR) a thousand miles away, the concept of boat ownership requires a shift in thinking. When CR is close by she is, let’s say, needy. We devote hours, really days of labor to the detriment of other relationships and home maintenance.

An example is our garden. It looks great. We spend most afternoons sitting in the backyard — under a constant stream of jets — counting flowers and pulling weeds. But this will soon be in the past. I am leaving for Vermont on Tuesday with Charlotte soon to follow.

To recap last year’s adventure CR ended her summer at Ladd’s Landing on Grand Isle, Vt. Grand Isle is a verdant island that would have proved difficult to navigate if it wasn’t for our fellow Nordic Tugger Jerry’s help and guidance.

We ate interesting bagels, paid for organic produce at a lakeside farm on the honor system, watched the bikes trek across the bridge from Grand Isle to North Hero, went to a lecture on island geology, fixed the ailing dingy and generally lazed around.

So, what are we up to this year. Here is the plan if it can be called a plan. I am of the let’s-go-and-see-what-happens school of travelling. This drives Charlotte nuts. She is of the spreadsheet school. These two disparate traits allow us to blend both viewpoints and meet a bunch of unique characters. Back to the plan: Vermont for June, then the Hudson and NYC, and eventually the Chesapeake Bay. That is it.

I ‘d say we will see where the wind takes us except it is more like where the diesel allows us to go. Not quite as romantic but a lot more comfortable.
